When Portland Gallery prepared for Nicholas Hely Hutchinson’s solo exhibition, Artisan Framing was commissioned to frame the complete collection of 60 artworks.

The project brought together large-scale canvas works and smaller works on board, each requiring a carefully considered framing solution while maintaining a coherent visual language across the exhibition.

From frame design and hand finishing to specialist glazing and final delivery, every stage was managed by Gary and the team in Dorset..

60 artworks - 18 large canvases - 40+ works on board - One complete exhibition

The Brief

One exhibition. Multiple framing requirements.

The collection presented two distinct framing challenges.

The first was a series of 18 large canvas works, requiring substantial bespoke tray frames that complemented the scale and character of the paintings without overpowering them.

The second comprised more than 40 smaller works on board, requiring a different approach while retaining consistency throughout the exhibition.

The brief was therefore not simply to frame individual artworks, but to create a cohesive family of frames across the whole exhibition.
